Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurates the permanent campus of National Institute of Technology (NIT), Goa on 6th February 2024.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the campus of the National Institute of Technology (NIT) in Goa, marking a significant milestone in the state’s educational infrastructure. NIT Goa commenced operations at its temporary campus located within the premises of Goa Engineering College, Farmagudi, Ponda, Goa, back in 2010. With support from the Ministry of Education, the institution gradually evolved and fully established itself at Cuncolim, South Goa, by 2023. The Government of Goa facilitated the acquisition of land measuring 4,56,767 sqm (113 acres) in the village of Cuncolim for its permanent campus in July 2017.

NIT Goa campus boasts a total built-up area spanning 70,750 sqm, constructed for Rs 390.83 crore and can accommodate 1,260 students. It offers a range of facilities including tutorial complexes, departmental complexes, seminar facilities, administrative buildings, hostels, a health center, staff quarters, amenity centers and sports grounds, among other utilities.

Embracing eco-friendly practices, the NIT campus features a solar plant, sewage treatment plant, water-saving fittings and fixtures in sanitaryware, energy-efficient electric lighting and solar-powered street lights. The installation of solar panels and indigenous plant species in landscaping endeavors complement the local weather conditions of the state, contributing to sustainability efforts during construction and beyond.

About National Institute Of Technology Goa

The National Institute of Technology Goa (NIT Goa) is a premier national-level technical institute in India established in 2010 by an act of parliament (NIT Act, 2007 and NIT (Amendment) Act, 2012). NIT Goa is an autonomous institute functioning under the aegis of Ministry of Education (MoE), Government of India, and has been declared an “Institute of National Importance”. The Campus is located at Kottamoll Plateau, Cuncolim Municipal Area, Salcete Taluka, South Goa District, Goa – 403703. Cuncolim is located 15 kilometers from Margao City.

The Institute offers M.Tech. Programmes in the Three disciplines: (1) Computer Science and Engineering (CSE), (2) VLSI and (3) Power Electronics and Power Systems (PEPS). The Institute also offers Ph.D. degrees in various streams of Engineering, Applied Sciences, Technology and Humanities & Social Sciences.

The Institute admits students into the B.Tech. degree programme based on the ranks obtained in the Joint Entrance Examination JEE (Main) and the scheme of Direct Admission to Students Abroad (DASA).

The Institute is well-equipped with laboratories, workshops and has an up-to-date Library with rich and comprehensively high-quality print and electronic resources.  The Training and Placement Cell of NIT Goa aims to provide opportunities to students to shape their career. NIT Goa Campus is located at  Kottamoll Plateau, Cuncolim Municipal Area, Salcete Taluka,South Goa District, Goa – 403703.Cuncolim is located 15 km from Margao City. Cuncolim is a city and a municipal council in South Goa district in the Indian state of Goa.

By Air

Dabolim Airport in Vasco, caters to domestic and international airlines that stop en route to other Indian destinations. It is at a distance of around 38 Km (45 Minute ride) from the Institute.

Manohar International Airport in Mopa, it is a distance of around 77 Km(1 Hr 30 Min ride) from the Institute

By Rail

Goa has two rail lines-one run by the South Western Railway and the other by the Konkan Railway. Closest major railway station is ‘Madgaon Railway Station’ which is around 15 Km (20 Minute ride) from the institute.
